Northeastern University: Understanding Design with Guest Speaker Scott Lewallen, Grindr Co-Founder
Grindr Co-Founder Scott Lewallen sits with Northeastern University School of Architecture founding director and Professor George Thrush as a guest speaker on Understanding Design.
Scott Lewallen is Founder and CEO of Mezic Media (mezic.com), a consultancy specializing in design, UI/UX, and branding of products.
A design, marketing, and branding whiz with quite the pedigree, Scott’s been in the game 10 years and counting, creating killer identities that make products really pop in the marketplace, and designing fun mobile apps that people love to use.
You know Scott best as Co-Founder of Grindr, the world’s largest gay social network. After Grindr’s 2009 launch in Los Angeles, Scott became Senior Vice President of Product and Design. He directed all product development, UI/UX design, and graphic design at the Hollywood headquarters for both Grindr (grindr.com) and its sister app Blendr (blendr.com). His leadership and his team’s efforts defined the brand and helped Grindr grow into the most popular all-male geosocial mobile app, from zero to 6 million users in 192 countries.
In March 2013, Scott left Grindr to return to the world of consulting, resurrecting the Mezic Media brand that he’d launched prior to creating Grindr. Mezic has done projects for various industries, including health and fitness; entertainment; and technology; and is keyed into niche audiences, including the LGBT community. Scott’s other career highlights include stints as Art Director at E! Entertainment (eonline.com) and Creative Director for Atlantis Events (atlantisevents.com).
Born and raised in Southern California, Scott is, by his own admission, a gay geek. He also happens to be a University of Southern California alumnus (USC Annenberg School for Communication) and overall nice guy whose favorite things include art, technology, skyscrapers, football, beer, and, of course, sharks.
Scott currently resides in New York City, and can be found on Twitter (twitter.com/ scottlewallen) and Instagram (instagram.com/scottlewallen).
